AH! there's glitter in my eye!
 i was recetly fortunate enough to be a part of a little art show that my friend, jules, put together. the show was titled, "AH! there's glitter in my eye!" and was comprised of about 20 artists.
lately my studying [for the NCLEX] has been occupying my time, but since that test has come and gone (and YES, i am now officially a REGISTERED NURSE) i was able to devote about 4 days to painting. the following photos chronicle my little journey.

i knew that i wanted to do something a little different than my usual paintings of flowery women. i also decided that instead of my typical go-to-canvas, i wanted to try painting on wood.

first, i made sketches of my work. this not only gave me insight of what i was getting into, but it also allowed me a better understanding of the different sized wood that i would be needing. mom went with me to home depot and i picked the most "grainy" plywood that i could find. i methodically measured out the wood so that the grain would help exaggerate what i was trying to create with the little critters that i would be painting.
my dad cut out the large pieces.
and my grandfather used the jigsaw to cut the oval for the owl to be painted on.
and then grandpa taught me to use the sander.

i tried to work on all 3 pieces simultaneously... this afforded me time to allow paint to dry and to try to keep my outlook fresh and exciting. i think it also helped me to keep a more "cohesive" approach.
my friends, katie and dylan, went out of town and let me have the place to myself. i was able to turn the place into a studio. having this workspace proved to be crucial to me getting this little project done. sigh. i wish i was rich and had a little place to get messy with my paints every once in a while. *note: LA can get HOT!

 and alas, the finished product!! my dad drilled some screws at the top of each painting and i hung twine... we are a very D.I.Y kind of family-- proves to work out though.
 i'll have to post some photos of the show-- it was AMAZING!! super rad turn out (including mom and dad).

i know that i am a touch behind with this.
i JUST finished watching blue valentine.
for those that have seen it-
you know what i'm saying.
for those that haven't,
well... let me know when you do.

castanets- i'll fly away

devendra banhart- this is the way
the visuals of this dreamboat are a bonus.
holy smokes!
i am currently conducting the tedious task of examining
every
single
thing
that i own.
i have a deep belief that we only have so much "room" in our lives;
each of us have a very certain amount of energy to throw into the universe's cycle,
that will, of course, return to us.
this recycled and renewed energy is necessary for life, sanity, growth.
sometimes when i feel overwhelmed with chaos or am searching for a new path-
i feel that i have to "clean out" the non-essentials to ensure room for new arrivals.
"stuff" clutters more than the mind.

so i don't have to dream alone . . ."

Sigur Rós - Samskeyti

don't worry darling-
all of my thoughts are half-fictitious;
i thrive from exaggerations,
inaccuracies,
and any pollution of the mind.
my only expectation of you is 'kindness'.
happy "international kissing day"!
he said,
"So yes I can dream with you,
because I'm a dreamer;
imagination is ruling my life,
and I know you will be in my head
when I let my mind float around . . .
Je t embrasse tendrement et passionnémen."
